KAJIAN GAYA EKLEKTIK PADA INTERIOR RUMAH TJONG A FIE
Abstract
The eclectic style is a fashion in art and design that flourished in the mid-19th century and resurged in the late 20th century. The Tjong A Fie mansion is a cultural heritage building in Medan that implemented such a style which made it unique. This research aimed to understand the eclectic style application to the interior of cultural heritage buildings. This research used a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The discussion was concerned with the ambience and interior design of the Tjong A Fie mansion. Results show that elements of styles of different themes and ambience were recognized and applied to walls, floors, ceilings, interior fittings, and complementing furniture. The eclectic style of Tjong A Fie mansion reflected the owner's appreciation of diversity and broad outlook on arts. Such style may also be an alternative solution in redesigning the interior of a revived cultural heritage building with altered functions.
